[266] Lived in Shingles, CA. Pvt-US Marine Corp - WWI PH & GS. France conferred her marks of highest respect and esteem on Private Jones by Presenting him with the Croix de Guerre and the braid of the Legion of Honor. Besides these, he wore the red, white and blue bar denoting his participation in the second battle of the Marne, and the allied service bar. The Crox de Guerre bears a bronze leaf. It is necessary that the wearer be cited 11 times before he is allowed the leaf. He enlisted in the marines in June 1917. He fought in several battles including Belleau woods. He was wounded twice in more than 13 months of fighting. At the time of the war he was living with his brother, Otis Jones, a 210 North Main St, Memphis, TN.
