[1712] From 1820 census was living in Northampton Co., NC and in Calloway Co, KY in 1830 and 1840. Received a Kentucky land grant. Briton's will was recorded in Calloway Co., Ky and signed by him 1/13/1848. It names his children and wife.Son Andrew J. was appointed the executor. According to D M Cardwell, Briton had 12 children and most settled in RedRiver and Lamar Counties in Texas before the Civil War.Some specifics from Briton's will: "I loan to my beloved wife, Susan Lassiter, during her natural life or widowhood all my real and personal estate---" She was alive ! These orig. words are dated Jan. 13 1848. A clerk had entered at the top of thepage "Decemer 25th 1848"--in large formal script. I have to GUESS that was the date the will wasofficially accepted by the "Court"? Briton was also specific enough saying "Lucrecia" was dead--"--my landshall I desire that (after the death of my wife) be equally divided--between my other children to wit ---and the heirs of Lucrecia, which heirs, to wit, Nancy Ele Ross & Mary J. Ross shall have one portion & thatMartin D. Ross their father shall have the benefit of the place on which he now resides free of rent until--"
