[2] Jeannine was born and raised in Macon, GA. She graduated from Miller High School for Girls in 1953,attended Georgia State College for Women and graduatd from Auburn University in home economics education in 1956. She suffered from polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a genetic disorder and had a kidney transplant in 1992 which performed very well.Jeannine was baptized by J. Walker WhittleIn Tribute by Marion Lynn Laster, December 12, 2000 (read at the funeral)"Jeannine and I were married almost 45 years at the time of her passing. It is very difficult to realize that she is no longer with us in body. She now has her most deserving reward with our Lord inHeaven. She was the most wonderful Christian wife, mother, and grandmother that anyone could have. These past seven weeks she suffered beyond measure with her failing body. Nevertheless, these days were very precious to both of us because we were together much more than usual. I always will cherish these moments.I can't say how much I was privileged to be her husband. She always lovingly cared for me and our family. She always was concerned for our welfare even to the end when she was the one with the mostproblems. Her love for us was without measure. She was never one to complain, but these last seven weeks were physically very difficult for her.Now she is at peace. There are so many wonderful memories that Jeannine and I share not the least of which are the love, devotion, and closeness of our family to one another. She always looked forward to at least a weekly telephone conversation with each of the children and to the times they would come home or she could visit them. She was concerned as much for them as adults as she did when they were children. She loved to share her very being and soul with allaspects of their lives. We were most blessed that each of our children and their spouses are Christians. For our children she certainly lead the way in raising them and was the glue that held things together in both good and difficult times. She was always available to the children as well as to me for any occasion or circumstance. She delighted in our fifteen grandchildren and loved them dearly. She loved the church and all who were part of it. She was strong in faith and continually encouraged us all. She was not only my wife but was my dearest and best friend. Oh how much she will be missed. But, in death she will certainly inspire me and all our children to the day that we can join her in her reward. She is now waiting on us. May none of us disappoint her by missing that day."OUR MOM, by Jeannine's childrenOur Mom loved children. Because of that love for children, she earned a degree in teaching and teach she did! She made sure her children were well-read; finished their homework, and memorized their Bible verses. This led the four of us to 8 college degrees. The whole time Mom was sick, I kept thinking about Psalms 9:9 "The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of sorrow. Those who know your name will trust in you; for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." Mom went through so much (dialysis, transplants, multiple illnesses, much suffering and pain), but always was there for us. She showed us strength and to trust in GOD.The greatest, most precious gift GOD ever gave us was our Mom. She taught compassion, strength in adversity, love, dedication for our family, and the desire to always be our best. Thank you GOD for giving us such a great Mom.Some say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." And she gave each one of her children special giftspieces of herself:To Carole: Mom gave the ability to be a teacher, a voracious reader and to have a love for others. To Cherry: Mom gave an intense love for children and the patience to raise them.To Michelle: Mom gave an Iron Will and determination to overcome the odds.To Carey: Mom gave a love for animals and a compassionate, sensitive heart that few men will ever know.To Daddy (Her other child): She gave devotion, dedication, support and encouragement. To her special friend, Kim: She gave comfort, love, and a listening ear.To All of Us: Mom was our support system because of her strength; Mom was a counselor because of her wisdom; Mom was the program director, of 26 (including 15 grandchildren of whom she was so proud) becauseit takes a lot to manage getting that many family members in one placeand fedand together long enough to have special memories. She was devoted to her family, and continually sacrificed of herself for her children. The greatest gift she gave all of us was the model of a Christian woman, and through that model, she placed Christ in our hearts. Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year. She loved it when the whole family would come home together. Mom, we pledge to come home to youone last time in heaven.
