[1634] Knighted in 1588 and inherited title as Second Lord De La Warr of New Creation. Was a member of thePrivy Council of Queen Elizabeth. At the baptism of his first daughter, Elizabeth, Queen Elizabethwas her sponsor. They had six sons and seven daughters. Three sons became Governors of Virginia, appointed by the King. Delaware was named for Thomas and he servedas governor of Virginia shortly after it was founded.
